Marney’s practice is in mediation and civil litigation, with a focus on personal injury and fatality claims arising out of single and multi-vehicle collisions and pedestrian/motor vehicle accidents, coverage issues, all types of personal injury and insurance cases. She is a frequent lecturer to client groups on civil and insurance litigation. Marney also has experience defending claims arising from high risk sports such as heli-skiing and skydiving cases, including interpretation and drafting of waivers.
Marney has been repeatedly recognized in the Canadian Legal L’Expert Directory as a leading practitioner in the area of Personal Injury, and has lectured and spoken extensively on liability and risk management issues.
Marney’s experience in mediation numbers hundreds of cases on the defence side, as well as select Plaintiff cases. Marney has acted as both counsel and mediator.
In February 2013, Marney completed the intensive program in mediation and facilitating settlement at the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine School of Law. In addition, each year since 2013, Marney has completed the Strauss Professional Skills series including courses focussed on Mindfulness and Avoiding Impasse – Mediation and Mediation and Game Theory. Marney is committed to ongoing professional development in the mediation area on an ongoing basis.
In May of 2017, Marney will speak on a panel at the 50th Annual Alberta Law Conference entitled “Effective ADR, JDR, and Settlement Conferences”
