Marney Lutz articled in Calgary in 1993 with a major Calgary firm and continued to practice law there until joining Scott Venturo LLP in January, 2003. She joined the partnership at that time.
Ms. Lutz’s practice has been exclusively in civil litigation, primarily in insurance and risk management, with a particular focus on personal injury litigation. Marney’s experience has also included the defence of sexual assault claims on behalf of industrial defendants and “tainted blood” litigation, including the defence of the Canadian Red Cross Society in Hepatitis and Kreutzfeld-Jacob disease claims.
She is a frequent lecturer to client groups on civil and insurance litigation. Most recently, Marney has developed a practice as a Mediator, and has acted as mediator in numerous personal injury cases for both Calgary and Edmonton counsel and insurers.
Examples of Marney’s trial experience include the leading decisions of Nguyen v. Smith (successful “inevitable accident” defence); Chouhan v. Canada Safeway Ltd. and McNiece Landscaping, Brubacher v. Augustine (slip and fall), Moser v. Derksen (chronic pain) and Pastryeva v. Krall (pedestrian). Marney also has experience in sports waiver litigation, including Ocha v. Canadian Mountain Holidays (heli-skiing) and Dyck v. Laidlaw (skydiving).
Her current practice focus includes her work as a Mediator, and all types of personal injury and fatality claims arising out of single and multi-vehicle collisions and pedestrian/motor vehicle accidents, sexual assault, coverage issues, as well as life and disability insurance cases.
