Laura received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (Honours) from the University of Calgary in 2007 and her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 2010. Laura commenced her articles with a boutique litigation firm in 2010, joined Scott Venturo LLP in May of 2011 and completed her articles in August 2011. Laura maintains a general civil litigation practice and takes a particular interest in employment, regulatory, commercial, sports and insurance disputes.
Laura was seconded to a major oil and gas company during her articles, where she obtained corporate and regulatory experience. She has appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta and an administrative disciplinary tribunal.
Laura is an active athlete and former National Biathlon Team member. She competed internationally for Canada, including at the World University Games in Tarvisio, Italy in 2003. Laura’s experiences as an athlete have drawn her to the field of sports law. In 2012, she chaired an Appeal Panel which upheld the sanctions imposed on two athletes by their National Sport Organization.
During law school, Laura volunteered with Student Legal Services Criminal and Legal Education divisions. She was also a University of Alberta Faculty of Law Peer Coach. During her final year of law school, Laura participated in the Provincial Courts Clerkship Program rotating through Criminal, Youth, Family and Civil Courts.
Outside of work, Laura enjoys cross-country skiing, running, cycling and heading out to the mountains in her hometown of Canmore.
