PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
Born and raised in Calgary, Ms. Holowisky pursued her passion for dance and the arts by obtaining a Bachelor of Performing Arts from Oklahoma City University. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, Gillian moved to New York City and performed in several professional productions; including Oklahoma, The Music Man, Young Abe Lincoln and A Christmas Carol.
Gillian received her Juris Doctor (cum laude), from Vermont Law School in 2003. While at Vermont Law School (VLS), Gillian was invited to serve on the Vermont Law Review and acted as one of four Managing Editors in 2002-2003. Gillian also participated as a senior member on VLS’ National Trial Advocacy Team, participating in two national mock trial competitions.
In 2004, Gillian was admitted into the State Bar of Nevada and California. Between 2005 and 2011, Gillian practiced law in Las Vegas; first with a private firm and later as staff counsel for a major insurance company. While in Las Vegas, Gillian’s practice focused on general civil litigation, with an emphasis on insurance defence (general liability, auto/trucking liability, construction defect litigation, general construction litigation, and personal injury litigation). Career highlights include the successful completion of two jury trials and two bench trials, wherein she obtained defence verdicts for all clients. Gillian has also successfully conducted numerous arbitrations, mediations and judicial dispute resolutions.
In 2012, Gillian moved back to Calgary and joined Scott Venturo LLP as an articling student. Gillian is looking forward to completing the Alberta Law Society requirements and obtaining admission to the Alberta Bar.
