Don commenced his articles with Scott Venturo LLP in July, 1998 and joined the firm as an associate in 1999. He became a partner in 2005.
Shortly after his call to the bar, Don successfully argued the case of R. v. Watkinson before the Alberta Court of Appeal, one of the leading decisions in Alberta on the applicability of conditional sentences in serious breach of trust cases.
Since that time, Don’s practice has focussed almost exclusively in the area of insurance defence litigation. Don has significant experience in construction and commercial litigation as well as professional liability defence work involving architects and engineers. Don also has experience in oil and gas disputes, commercial host liability cases, directors’ and officers’ liability matters as well as wrongful death/serious personal injury claims.
He has acted for major insurers at all levels of the Alberta Courts and in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Don has significant experience with alternative dispute resolution; mainly involving private and judicial mediations.
In his spare time, Don can be found playing guitar, running marathons, fly fishing the Bow River or trying to keep up with his son on the squash court.
